Back in January we were up in Queensland and a friend of our made us homemade bread to go with our dinner and it was beyond delicious, I begged her to give me the recipe! I made it as soon as we landed home to go with our dinner one night and it turned out perfectly. This goes perfectly with my super easy homemade pumpkin soup recipe.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups warm water
1 tbsp honey
1 ½ tsp salt
1 tbsp Active Dry Yeast
3 ½ – 4 ½ cups flour
Butter
Method
Combine the water, honey, salt and yeast in a glass bowl. Let it sit for approx. 5-10 minutes until you see some foam/bubbling on top.
Next, add a bunch of flour. Keep kneading until it is no longer sticking to your fingers, but still keeping stuck together. Keep gradually adding more flour until it stops sticking to your own hands.
Form the dough into a loaf shape. Cover with t a towel and let sit on the counter for approx. 20 minutes. While this is resting, turn the oven on to 200°C.
After 20 minutes, cut some lines on top of the dough, then place some pieces of butter on top of the loaf to melt while it is baking and place in the oven to bake for 15-20 minutes.
NOTE: You can make different varieties of this bread including adding garlic salt to the dough and some oregano on top or do a cinnamon and raisin loaf! The options are endless!
