Don’t let the name or photo put you off, this is one of my best creations and those who dare to try it, always request me to make it whenever they are over. This came about when I wanted to make an apple pie but ran out of pastry so the next best thing was bread!
1-2 Granny Smith Apples
Pinch of cinnamon
1 tbs brown sugar
2 slices wholemeal bread
Icing sugar, to serve
Dice apples in very small cubes and place in bowl.
Add the cinnamon and brown sugar, with a tsp of water and mix through.
Butter the outside of the bread and place in sandwich press, add apples and top off with second piece of bread, press down and let slowly cook. Add remaining diced apple to the top or beside the sandwich and allow to stew.
Once cooked through and bread slightly brown, remove to plate, cut in half and top with icing sugar.
