Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Niagara Falls is one of the most amazing things I will ever witness in my lifetime. It is beyond beautiful and nothing can describe how great it is.

We ventured to Niagara Falls from Syracuse, New York and road tripped it. Heading in to Canada was pretty easy, no complications and we got our passports stamped!

First stop, looking at the falls. WOW! Breathtaking. Unbelievable.

While we were there in the middle of Winter, unfortunately the boat ride wasn’t running so had to just ‘view from the balcony’, which was still amazing in itself.

Then, there was a little black squirrel which started following me around, he was undoubtedly cute and loveable and I wanted to take him home – he was christened as Binky the Squirrel from that day forth!

After a bit of shopping – bought a beautiful dream catcher and a dream catcher necklace – we decided to walk around the city. Well, walk we did, for a long, long, long, long time. We walked that long, we got lost in some backstreets when it started to get dark!!

Thank goodness we eventually made it back to a main street and decided to try Outback Steakhouse, to see if it really did have ‘Famous Australian Cuisine’. For one, when on earth has anyone, anywhere in Australia made a ‘Bloomin’ Onion’?! We bought one just for a laugh and it is definitely not for us! Basically, it’s “a true Outback original. Our special onion is hand-carved by a dedicated bloomologist, cooked until golden and ready to dip into our spicy signature bloom sauce. 10.95” I had the Alice Springs Chicken which was a grilled chicken breast seasoned and topped with honey mustard sauce, sautéed mushrooms, crisp strips of bacon and melted Aussie Jack and Cheddar cheeses. Served with chips. – 25.95

Which was nice, I definitely had the best meal that night. Beware, you get charged soooooo much tax for your meals here, they impose a ‘Tourist Tax’ (which I believe was about 7% on top of the other taxes that are imposed).

Afterwards, we decided to view the falls again, this time at night as they lit up in spectacular colours, before heading back across the border to travel back to Syracuse.

BUT! Whilst waiting in the traffic to get through Border Patrol, we ended up getting searched and interrogated by Border Patrol which was bloody scary! We were sitting there in stand still traffic when suddenly 6 or so men and a sniffer dog came out of nowhere and started searching the car and questioning why an American and two Australians were in Canada for only a day! Jeez Louise, then, when they asked what we had purchased, I meekly go, “a dreamcatcher” in my tiniest voice, I thought they were going to confiscate it! Then the dog started going in and out of the car…

All in all, turned out it was a bit of confusion over the whole incident and we were let through shortly after.

If there is ever one thing you will do when in the upper part of America or in Canada, do go out of your way to venture to Niagara Falls, you will not be disappointed.
