TRAVEL: Anyone been to Dubai?

So, trying to plan the next big adventure and have been looking at Dubai! Something new and different, and surprisingly, cheap especially compared to other destinations for a week such as Hawaii, etc. for the same amount of time.

Hubby and I are looking at going end of May – start of June and I’m looking for hotel suggestions, places to eat, things to do, etc;

Looking to stay in a five star hotel for the week and was wondering, what area is best to book a hotel? Downtown Dubai near the mall (but apparently away from everything else?) Along Dubai Creek? Business District? HELP!

All ideas and suggestions welcome for a first timer to Dubai πŸ™‚

  1. We stayed in Downtown (Oberoi) but if we went again we’d stay at Jumeirah Beach. Wherever you stay you’ll end up getting taxis everywhere as its too hot to walk even short distances and the pavements/sidewalks are not very pedestrian friendly. Creek is worth a visit but I wouldn’t stay there. Marina worth a look but too far away. Definitely spend time at Creek, Burj Khalifa/fountain/mall and go on a desert safari. We enjoyed Madinat Jumeirah too for a canal cruise. Enjoy!

    1. Thank you so much for the information abitofculture, appreciate it! We have been tossing up whether or not we go (as our house is currently being built) but will look into hotels around this area, thank you! P.S: is there any particular hotels you’d recommend?

  2. Hi!
    I stumbled on your post. I’ve been living in Dubai for a while and can definitely help out with a few suggestions. I would recommend staying in the Downtown area on Sheikh Zayed Road. It is situated in the middle of all the action and it is relatively easy to travel to any other parts of Dubai since it is in the middle and right next to the main metro line.
    Feel free to poke around my site in the coming months. I’m going to start writing reviews and suggestions of things to do in Dubai. See you soon in Dubai!

    1. Thank you almostbetty, I’ll have a look through your blog for inspiration ☺️ is there any particular hotels you’d recommend around there? (I honestly can’t believe there are sooooo many hotels!) also, don’t know if you’d know, but is it true golf is cheaper in the summer there (we are planning on coming end of May to early June)? My husband wants to go over there to play golf so was curious 😏

  3. Hello! Just stumbled across your post, i work for Jumeirah hotels and have just launched an official Jumeirah blog
    There will be lots of inspiration posted on there for places to stay and things to do in the coming weeks. Madinat Jumeirah is a great place to wonder around and you should definitely go to see the fountain show by Burj Khalifa in Downtown : ) There’s also the Wild Wadi water park, plenty of golf courses and yes probably cheaper in the summer months! We also have a website Have a great time!
