I first visited Phuket with my family in 2009 and went back again in 2011 with my now-Husband, and it was his first overseas holiday.
Phuket has an array of activities and budgets to suit everyone, you can stay in a shack for $40 a month or stay in a five-star resort with ocean views for a couple of hundred a night (I’m more of an ocean views type of girl myself).
Activities wise, there is elephant trekking, local zoos, jet skiing, shopping, parasailing, more shopping, hikes… the list goes on! I think there was almost a different activity every day we were in Thailand, so you are never bored.
The people of Thailand are very friendly and welcoming, but don’t get too friendly in the marketplace. You will be harassed into buying items from every single stall, and especially if you have a lot of shopping bags, keep walking and do not stop unless you want to be guilted into buying stuff you don’t want or need (not everyone tries this tactic but it is getting more and more common).
Thailand is known as ‘The Land of Smiles’ and it is true, they are always smiling. Phuket is a great destination, whether it is for a family, a single who likes to party or a couple wanting a romantic getaway.
